The Jāla (pronounced ‘Jaala’) pendant lamp, drawing its name from the Sanskrit word for ‘lattice’, captures the essence of Odisha’s masterful weaving traditions. This sculptural piece showcases an intricate bamboo lattice that creates a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow, reminiscent of sunlight filtering through temple windows.

The lamp’s cylindrical form features a meticulous basket weave pattern, where each bamboo strip is precisely interlaced to create a rhythmic grid enhanced by purple accent elements. This weaving technique, perfected over generations by Odisha’s artisans, transforms the rigid bamboo into a seemingly fluid lattice that appears to dance with light.

The lamp is crowned with a hand-painted ceramic dome in vibrant yellow ochre, adorned with a continuous zigzag pattern that echoes the traditional tribal motifs found in Odisha’s art. The natural jute rope suspension adds an organic touch, completing the lamp’s connection to sustainable materials.
